Motorcycle Lover

Are you mesmerized by motorcycles? Motorcycles are synonymous with coolness, but before you go right ahead and start riding one, you need to get familiar with the basics of the motorcycle first!

Due to some very advanced physics, motorcycles always stay upright when they are moving. However, a motorcycle which is standing still will lean over if it does not have some kind of support. A moving motorcycle, as already said, will stay upright effortlessly because of torque and angular momentum.

To understand how these elements of physics work on the bike, imagine holding a bat in your palm with the heavy end facing up. Since this is so unsteady, it is going to tip over. Now, imagine that you are twisting your palm in a way to keep it directly under the heavy end of the bat. All of a sudden, the bat is steady. This is the way bikes also keep upright.

When the rider is moving forward on the bike due to the torque and power given by the engine, the rider (as in the palm in the example above) is always moving the motorcycle (the bat) to keep it directly in line with the centre of gravity (in the example, it is the heavy end of the bat).

As all bikes don’t work the same way, some will operate differently. Older bikes use kick-starters, while newer bikes have custom suspension, GPS, electronic de-fogging etc. mirrors. Always remember to wear protective bike gear and get insured  when you’re riding a motorcycle.
